Hungarian Grand Prix – Finally

{ Posted on Aug 08 2006 by dScribe }

The Hungarian Grand Prix was one of the most exciting and eventful grand prix we’ve seen in a long long time. Who would have thought that the slow, twisty circuit, sometimes referred to as a Mickey Mouse circuit by drivers, would produce such an amazing spectacle. Sure, the rain had a part to play, but it was more drivers pushing to the limit and making mistakes that made this grand prix come alive.

The points:

  • Jenson Button – A well deserved maiden victory. Toyota must be spewing as they were the ones who had the recent surge in form, yet it’s their arch rival Honda that achieves a victory. But let’s not get too far away from the point. To paraphrase his father, Jenson dun good! :)
  • Michelin – They’ve copped a lot of flack this year after Bridgestone made significant improvements and inroads into their lead. While Michelin dropped the ball with their dry tyres, Bridgestone dropped the ball with their wet tyres in a much bigger way!! Traditionally Bridgestone tyres were the king in the wet, but in Hungary you would have been happy if you were a Michelin runner. Michelin dun good. ;)
  • Michael Schumacher – I think Schumi needs a set of points all for himself.. see below.. 8)
  • Felipe Massa – Bound for stock cars next year. Or Midland. Take your pick.
  • Fernando Alonso – What a brilliant display. One of the only drivers smart (brave?) enough to try a different line in the wet – and it worked. I think he passed more people around the outside than the inside! :)  Very unlucky that gremlins stopped him from being rewarded for his efforts.
  • Kimi Raikkonen – Kimi did a Schumacher. Or did Liuzzi do a Coulthard? :)
  • Pedro de la Rosa – Yeah, not bad.. Although Montoya could have done the same (including the spin on the warm up lap!! He’s done it in the past too.. ;))
  • James Allen – Would you crawl out of Michael Schumacher’s ass already!? I know you desperately want to be Murray Walker but we don’t need another uber-fan commentator.. :P
  • Anthony Davidson – Holy crap. I used to really like this guy but how self-centred is he!? “I chose the tyres Button was on..”, “I’m the reason Honda won today because Martin has been jinxing them..” (not exact quotes, but close enough!!). You don’t even know how to say your own name properly! ;)   Seriously, what is this calling him Ant-ony like there’s no H in there??

Now to the Michael Schumacher points..

  • The man has every record imaginable, but clearly he wants the record for most collisions with other drivers too.. :P He probably already has it although who would be 2nd? Andrea de Crasheris? :)
  • If he even finished 4th he would be in an amazing position in the Championship. It would have crushed Alonso. However, he let his ego get in the way. I really really cannot understand why he even bothered fighting with Pedro and Nick.
  • I can’t help but think he was trying everything he could to have Alonso crash into him when he was lapped..

Anyway, enough Schumi-bashing for the moment.. ;)   Him and Fernando both drove amazing races, only Fernando did it without any mistakes.. Hope the battle resumes where it left off after such a long break coming up!
