France - Goodbye Lewis, Hello Kimi

While we say goodbye to France from the Formula One World Championship, Lewis Hamilton said goodbye to pole position and the race victory.

Kimi Raikkonen - Welcome back Kimi! While not as dominant as his Australian Grand Prix victory, he worked a bit of magic to get ahead of teammate Felipe Massa in the pits. A really great drive to keep the McLaren boys honest.

Felipe Massa - Another strong performance from the Brazilian. Great pole, great start and a fairly good race - only thing that let him down has a handful of slow laps around Kimi’s pit stop.

Lewis Hamilton - Another bad start, but this time didn’t have the luxury of going up against a teammate who will always avoid an accident into the first corner.. Thus Kimi powered through. People want to blame the McLaren strategy, but regardless Ferrari had the edge through the whole race.

Fernando Alonso - Very exciting to watch, but in reality it’s another bad race for Fernando.

Nick Heidfeld - Nick is possibly doing a better job at preventing Alonso from getting a 3rd straight championship than Lewis Hamilton is ;)   Not a bad drive, but he didn’t seem very quick, especially when compared to his teammate.

Giancarlo Fisichella - Fantastic result for Renault! I wonder if Renault are thinking about their driver line-up for next year because both Giancarlo and Heikki have got their sh*t together so much in the last few rounds.. :)

Robert Kubica - Wow! What a comeback! This is the best thing that could happen to the guy to get him right back in the swing of things! :)

Christijan Albers - WTF!? Who on Earth drives off while the lollipop is still down (and absolutely no sign of flinching from the lollipop man)!? An absolute embarrassment and just lucky no-one was hurt! :(

Jenson Button - Quite a good performance for him and Honda in the new car. But does anyone know who Honda’s 2nd driver is because I haven’t seen Rubens Barrichello anywhere for.. well.. all year basically ;)

  1. So great to have the charismatic Kimi on the podium again! He was so thrilled, could you tell!…..

  2. You could tell Kimi was out of practise - he dropped the champagne bottle at the end of the podium ceremony and it ended up on the parc ferme floor…

  3. Well, the boys are back! After letting Mclaren get enough points to ensure an interesting season for the spectators, Ferrari have turned up the wick again. Rumour is Kimi was overheard in the pitlane after the race saying “I sure am glad we are allowed to go over 10000 RPM again!”

  4. P.S. Does anyone know if Alonso has finished the race yet?

  5. I missed watching this one…thankfully.

I do have to say though that it is nice to see Kimi back in the action. It will be much more satisfying for Mclaren to take the championship(s) this way.

Although it did take Alonso a bit longer to finish, he got back just in time to point Kimi in the direction of the podium…it’s been awhile.

All that I can say is to watch for the “Hammer” to hit Silverstone

  6. I don’t understand this…if Mclaren have been using stolen information from Ferrari, how come they are doing so much better in races than the Ferraris’ (ok, until last Saturday)….can someone explain?

  7. Hi Paula.. I think Ferrari have had some issues this year once they had to address the legality of their supposed movable floor. Now that they’ve got on top of that they seem to be back up there.

But I do wonder, what would McLaren copy even if they had access to all of Ferrari’s information? What works for one car won’t necessarily work on another car. But if it was on-track test data it might be of some use..

  8. Hmmm, but working on the same principal, what would explain Honda? Or did I miss something and they are actually improving? I have to admit both the factory Honda & Toyota teams are falling well under my radar these days except for the mysterious disappearing rumours of a replacement for Ralf.

I read in several places Timo Glock (a fabulous name for anyone, doing anything really) was tipped but, given Vettel’s performance at Indy I was prepared to crack open the bubbly if they gave him (Vettel) the nod…but here is Ralf, slogging on.

Is it even possible Toyota never heard of a performance clause?
