With F1 testing resuming this week, it looks like we’ve been given a sneak peek of the 2009 grid courtesy of McLaren (picture from gpupdate.net):

2009 McLaren F1

I have to say, the car looks a lot better. While the rear wing is technically much less effective, it’s cleaner, and thus looks faster (important for the fans ;)). The front wing is still a bit ugly, but the limited flip-ups again make the car look cleaner.

Best feature all up though has to be the return of slick tyres!! :D

  1. Isn’t that just this year’s car with 2009-spec slicks and a low-drag aero kit - possibly Canada specification? I think the 2009 cars are expected to have sidepod wings banner which this car clearly has.

Great to see slicks back though. Hope they do give it the thumbs-up, it’s looking promising.

  2. Its more like this year’s car with monza specification - the rear wing is similar to those on the mp4-22 in Monza last yr.

To be honest, i found the car hollow… could any one help me???

  4. I am not a Mclaren fan and Lewis Hamilton dosent interest me, i am a Michael Schumacher fan and Ferrari and has Schumi is retired he is still in my heart but i reckon Kimi and Felipe will bring home the world champion for me in 2008. thats all that matters.

  5. This is a 2008 car! The Front wing in 2009 will be lower and wider for a start and the rear wing will also be narrower.
Definately just a low downforce set-up.

  6. As the press release says, they’re running a aero config as close as possible to the 2009 specs.

I don’t like this aero cause it’s too simply, nowadays i like the aero because they have lot of small additional element in the car,one of element can be very important, and it’s amazing

  9. This is an ‘08 car in which they simulated expected 09 downforce/drag levels. They were given 9sets of Bridgestone slicks to test in Barcelona for the first time. I’m gonna miss the highly technical aero setups, but more passing sounds like something the sport needs. I just hope the cars are drivable from the 1st race on.

The energy recovery system sounds wierd but kind of intriguing. I just wish they’d stop trying to ruin the sport with some of the crap they are pulling. The one set of tires season was garbage. We’ve got Mad Max disgracing the sport in unmentionable fashion.

The lack of traction control/universal box has been interesting despite the fact that McClaren got the contract, I still don’t understand why Magnetti Marelli didn’t get it.

No more US GP and now the British GP will be at Donnington Park from 2010 on… Inside GP didn’t even mention a thing about Silverstone when they did the history of the British GP just this last week. Hopefully Uncle Herman goes easy on the novacaine with the Donnington redesign but the GP will never be the same when it leaves Silverstone.

  10. Oi Guys,

This picture was from Mclaren testing this year (08) i think ay Catalunya or maybe it was Jerez :s but i remember on one of the 3 testing days some teams ran (09) spec cars (50% downforce) so yer it’s the MP4-23 with 50% downforce which is 09 regs…

  11. wish they would take the crucifix off the top though

  12. this years car, low areo slick test from around the middle of this year im affraid not an o9 model at all ! the only team to roll out any 09 spec as of yet is williams at jerez yesturday (16th sept)

    fuck them and fuck hamilton!!

  14. The essence of f1 race is speed, speed and more speed and also g force. But fuckin moron max mosley put restriction in their development again! if he do so, i’ll absent for 2009 season and so on, until they get faster.
