5 Drivers that could drive McLaren in 2008

Ok, while in reality there might only beÂ 3 drivers genuinely in the running for the 2nd McLaren race seat in 2008, here’s our guesstimates onÂ 5 drivers who have a chance to land the seat in order of most-probable to least-probable:

Heikki Kovalainen – I’d say the odds of HeikkiÂ beingÂ McLaren’s 2nd driver are almost 1:1. He’s a very smart choice because while he has flashes of brilliance, he hasn’t yet shown rock-solid consistency so he wouldn’t pose much of a threat to Lewis Hamilton.
Gary Paffett – While PDLR is the media 2nd favourite, Gary Paffett would make more sense. Why not give another young driver a chance? It worked out well with Lewis Hamilton last year so why not with Gary this year? He may not be as fast as Lewis but maybe that’s a good thing for the team (read: designated no.2 driver). And if he’s not as good as PDLR then get rid of the guy and stop teasing him with the hope of racing one day!
Pedro de la Rosa – Good ol’ PDLR is always in the thick of it isn’t he? But the sad reality is when he got an opportunity to drive for McLaren last year, he didn’t do anything special.
Adrian Sutil – Would have hadÂ a real chance if Force India weren’t asking for a lot of ringit for his services..
Ralf Schumacher – Actually, Ralf doesn’t really make it to the top 5 list… he’d only just make it on the top 500 list of drivers that have a chance to drive at McLaren!

We managed to find a photo of Fernando Alonso testing a red and white car. We can’t verify the source of the photo and seriously doubt it’s a recent shot, but it should help keep the Alonso 2008 rumours burning…

The latest rumours have Fernando Alonso at Honda for 2008. If they’re true, it’s an even bolder move than Michael Schumacher moving to Ferrari in 1996.

This photo reminds us of last year in December when we found shots of Kimi Raikkonen testing a red car…

Hot Williams F1 Girl

Does anyone know who this girl from the Williams F1 teamÂ is?

Oh wait.. it’s Nico Rosberg!

While we really rate Nico as a driver, he certainly does look quite girlish in some shots. Nothing wrong with a pretty boy, but we just find the Philips Shaver ads with him humorous. Does he even have to shave? Someone like Mark Webber with a good 5 o’clock shadow would be better suited, but then he ain’t at Williams anymore I guess..

Lewis tried to get Webber Penalized?

Thank God for YouTube! If you missed it, there’s an amateur video floating around showing that Lewis Hamilton contributed to the accident between Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber during the Japanese Grand Prix last weekend. Let’s hope someone else captured Alonso spinning off from start to finish because the TV directors did a good job of missing that action too..

Apparently a few copies of this video have been taken off YouTube pretty quickly so let’s hope this embedded one below works for you all..

You’d have to say Lewis was trying the oldest trick in the book – braking suddenly so that the car behind you (Webber) passes you under the safety car. Then Webber would get a drive through penalty or similar, which would have been very convenient given that he was faster than Lewis before the safety car came out…

In any case, it’d be surprising if Lewis didn’t get punished in some way for his actions (actually, it wouldn’t be surprising – this is F1 after all! 8)). Article 40.10 of the F1 Sporting Regulations states:

Once behind the safety car, the race leader must keep within 5 car lengths of it.

Eyeballing it I’d say he left at least 10 car lengths (when the safety car was out of shot right at the end)..?
