Anthony Hurting Lewis Rep

Previously we mentioned how Anthony Hamilton is a walking press release, but we hadn’t read his latest comments at the time. This is what he said recently:

“What’s happened this year will make Lewis stronger. All we have done is prove that as a team, car and driver, we’re here for the future.

“So hell, enjoy your fun now because next year there’s going to be a problem, and we’re going to be back at the front.

“Next year he will no longer be a rookie and they (the other Formula One drivers) are going to be in trouble aren’t they?”

Nice one Ant. So humble and gracious (not!)… I can see comments like that really helping Lewis

Anthony Hamilton Talks BS

Either Anthony Hamilton was talking BS after the Brazilian Grand Prix or the guy’s a robot. This is what he had to say after his son failed to take the Drivers World Championship after leading it for most of the season (in his rookie season none-the-less):

None of us are in pain. Trust me – we feel great…

Ok, hold on. What father wouldn’t feel pain when his son came so close to achieving his ultimate dream? Even I felt a little bit of pain for Lewis (albeit not much ). He had it in the bag and then everything went against him at the last moment. That has to hurt.

And besides, never trust someone who feels the need to say “trust me” when talking to the media.. Â He continued:

We’ve just had one of the most fantastic F1 seasons ever. If someone told me we’d have been in this position at the start of the season I would have said they were dreaming but to lose it by one point is no bad thing.

The “I would have said they were dreaming” part is sooooo cliche! This guy’s a walking pressÂ release isn’t he? Â Lewis has had an amazing season and should be proud of his results. But to have one hand on the championship and then lose it to Kimi Raikkonen of all people..? Ouch!

What? The F1 season kicked off today? You could have fooled me because all I’ve seen on the news feeds are stories about Tamara Ecclestone being on the cover of the April edition of FHM.

That’s a great story, except for the fact that it’s actually Carmen Electra on the April 2007 cover of FHM..

Thankfully we did find a picture of Tamara Ecclestone on the January 2007 cover of FHM…

And there’s even a site that has photos of Tamara buying her own copy of FHM..

You’ve gotta love Flavio Briatore and the punches he pulls whenever he talks to the media.. Â Take, for example, one of his comments when asked whether McLaren had approached Renault to have Fernando Alonso released from his contract early:

Montoya to Race Next Weekend?

Earlier this week it was revealed that Juan Pablo Montoya had been released from his McLaren Mercedes contract, allowing him to test for his new NASCAR team, Chip Ganassi Racing. Not only will the Colombian test, he may also race in this weekend’s Busch Series race at Kansas Speedway.

Chip Ganassi has stated he wants to get Montoya in the car as soon as possible. He is scheduled for 2 tests this week, the outcome of which will dictate how soon we’ll see him in a race. Ganassi gives the impression that it’s not a question of “if” Montoya will race this year, but “when”.

F1 to Race at Night?

Renault team boss Flavio Briatore has come out and stated some of the major problems he sees in F1. One of those was the time at which races are held. He said:

Why always (start the race at) 2pm? It’s a stupid time – to watch a Grand Prix you have to f*** up your whole Sunday.

Surely Flav wouldn’t want the races any earlier in the day? That could only leave the possibility of F1 racing at night. Being located in the Asia-Pacific region, I don’t see this happening at all. Down here, due to the time difference, most F1 races start at 10:30 at night. Delaying this by 4 or 5 hours would wipe out a huge section of the audience in this region – and the Asian region is a region F1 is so desperate to establish itself in.

The other problem is when you consider the television schedule of areas in the same time-zone as the race itself. Having a race at 6 or 7pm wouldn’t work as these are prime-time spots. Unfortunately, most networks don’t see Formula One as prime-time television.

At the end of the day a 1pm or 2pm race start works pretty well, so it’s unlikely that it will ever change..
