Ferrari on Pole – in Adelaide?

Ok, so we got a lot of flak the last time we reported on a young guy crashing a Ferrari in Australia. This time however we didn’t even have to try to mix some humour in there – news.com.au did it for us by titling their gallery of the crash Ferrari in Pole Position.

Needless to say nobody was injured (otherwise we wouldn’t joke about it).

Interestingly, the crash happened in Adelaide which I believe is the only place in Australia that has concrete and metal telegraph/power poles (called Stobie Poles) – ouch! – everywhere else has wooden poles (still ouch I guess).

While it’s not an F1 story, I couldn’t help but smile at a local story this week where a Melbourne man crashed his father’s Ferrari F360 Challenge Stradale. Nobody was injured (apart from the driver’s pride). The part I love is how the crash happened at “Batman Avenue”. Seriously, Batman Avenue? Shame Superman didn’t save the day…

Schumacher Taxi – Suckers

Earlier we called out the Schumacher taxi story as smelling a bit fishy. Media agencies around the world took the bait and now here’s the hook – Tuncer Yilmaz, owner and driverÂ of the taxi, wants to sell the taxi (last bid was apparently 63,000 Euros!). His reason is supposedly to pay for any legal costs that might happen due to the police investigating Schumacher over the incident. How convenient…

The worst part is not that he’s trying to capitalize on the situation… well, actually that does suck b*lls, but what’s with these idiots who bid for items like this? Bidding for this stuff just makes more scammers come out of the woodwork. I guess some people would need a van to go pick up their slices of Virgin Mary toast though…

F1 Lawnmower

Yes, we’re back after a nice 2 week break. Didn’t even realise F1 resumed testing today as well… how ironic.

Anyway, last week we came across a John Player Special inspiredÂ (think Lotus / Ayrton Senna in the 80’s) lawnmower of all things. Yes, a lawnmower!

All I want to know is who on earth designs an F1 lawnmower that is NOT a ride-on!?

Actually, I also want to know who has time to create these rubbish concepts. What a waste of time… then again, we’re writing about it so I don’t know what’s worse… Â I promise the next post will be better!!

A Spanish pastry chef from Ibi in the Alicante province has created a chocolate McLaren Mercedes MP4/22 powered by cocoa (jokes ). It weighs 120 kilograms and is 220 cm long and is intended to be aÂ tribute to dual world champion Fernando Alonso (or a publicity stunt if you ask me ).

Now I don’t know much about chocolate (other than how to send it to my stomach at 320 kph), but if you ask me this is a rather crappy effort. First of all it’s so square that it looks more like a Minardi F1 car from a few years back. And what’s with those triangular sidepods and those bulges on the front wing end plates?

In reality this has nothing on the McLaren F1 ice car.. although it would taste better than the ice…Â :)

Felipe Massa – Another Underwear Idiot

Felipe Massa has revealed that he wore the same pair of underwear throughout the entire Brazilian Grand Prix weekend due to superstition. He said:

If my weekend begins well I use the same underpants on Saturday. If that is also a good day, I wear them on Sunday. That is what I did in Brazil.

This reminds me of David Coulthard who also has his favourite pair of “lucky underwear”. I find it amazing that these guys can be paid millions of dollars to drive Formula One cars yet have such ridiculous superstitions. If they truly believe things like this has an effect on their performance then imagine what else could impact them! It’s kind of like the Spanish MotoGP riders who always magically do better at their home events.. It’s all in the head!

McLaren Snowmobile

Snowmobiles look like a lot of fun, but this would be something else!

Here we have Mika Hakkinen taking wife Erja Hakkinen for a spin in the 2-seater McLaren F1 – in the snow!!
