Microsoft ECUs for all F1 cars in 2008
There’s been a lot of talk about Microsoft winning the tender to supply all teams with a standard ECU in 2008. Many jokes have been flying about, however the group is actually Microsoft MES, which is a joint venture between Microsoft and McLaren. Siemens are also involved in the project.
The MES stands for McLaren Electronic Systems, formerly known as TAG Electronics. The group has been producing racing electronic systems for over 15 years, so it’s no surprise they won the tender for the 2008 ECU. The only concern is a conflict of interest as McLaren is heavily involved in both F1 on the track and MES.
